New York Dermatology Group

New York – Construction completion April 20, 2018
Interior Architectural Design
Brandon Haw Architecture was commissioned to design the new interior for New York Dermatology Group Integral Health and Wellness flagship facility located within Manhattan’s Ladies’ Mile District. Comprising over 7,000 sq ft. of specialist wellness, therapy and treatment facilities, the project is located on the second floor of the 1905 Landmarked building originally designed by John Duncan.
The design organises a complex programme of technically challenging, state of the art treatment rooms into a coherent, classic and timeless space, that respects the fabric of the building with its magnificent light-filled windows, whilst promoting a sense of calmness, efficiency and functional beauty in all aspects, from the visitor arrival experience to each treatment room interior.
With every detail being considered – treatment; blood infusion; nutritionist and body work rooms are organised within a freestanding sinuous pod set apart from the existing double scale windows that face onto Fifth Avenue, and the grid of the city.
Resembling a sensuous and elegant curtain, frozen in time, BHA has designed a unique cladding system built in Italy in collaboration with Paolo Cassina Custom Interiors. Bronze and dark wood finishes have been meticulously detailed throughout all public areas of the space.
Custom cabinetry was designed for each treatment room to reinforce the continuity of materials and craftmanship, whilst quartz flooring was chosen for its elegant appearance and ease of maintenance. Upon entering each room, dimmable lighting creates a subdued and calming ambience prior to the commencement of any procedure.
At ground level, a new understated entrance is integrated into the landmark facade; a contemporary interpretation of the traditional black freight entrances found within the historic district.
Brandon Haw Design has also created a new range of contract furniture combining sofa, seats and side tables for the reception area, which connect harmoniously to the overall design.

Universidad de los Andes
Sede Caribe:
Inaugurated on May 10, 2018

Cartagena
Institutional and corporate offices
Brandon Haw Architecture is proud to announce the inauguration of the Universidad de los Andes ‘Sede Caribe’. While construction of the building is still in progress, the University floor and its interiors have been completed and classes have begun.
Located just north of the historic center of Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, the project is part of Serena del Mar’s master plan to establish a new, transformative business and medical community.
The groundbreaking structure will house the prestigious University of Los Andes International School of Business and Management as well as commercial offices. The design engages internal and external spaces to create collaborative workspaces, subtly framing the surrounding landscape.
Designed to capture northerly breezes and maximize air movement over pools of cool water, the plan creates a shaded micro-climate within central courtyards – a functional interpretation of local Cartagena architecture.
External glass fiber reinforced concrete fins shelter the full height glazing from the local hot sun throughout the day, reducing the cooling load of the building. Incorporating the sun’s annual path and orientation, these functionally-driven design elements create a cool and magical environment for the students and faculty who inhabit the building, where the play of light and framed views interact throughout the day and season.
400 Collins

Miami
Mixed Use – Car park with retail and residential
400 Collins is a mixed-use development in the Miami Beach South of Fifth Historic District. Upon completion, it will be the city’s only luxury multi-residence car park. The project distinguishes itself by combining high-end residential units at roof level, set within their own private landscaped gardens, nesting above a primary use car parking structure. The car park itself sits above an exclusive dining establishment along Collins Avenue, thus actively contributing to the life of the neighborhood. 400 Collins acts as a contextual response to its function and place, whilst engaging in Miami’s dialogue of architecturally innovative parking structures. Visually captivating yet seamlessly integrated into its surroundings, the project draws upon the work of Leonard Horowitz and Barbara Capitman in the late 70’s that sought to establish a distinctive color palate for this historic neighborhood. 400 Collins is therefore an exercise in scale, subtlety and restraint that speaks to Brandon Haw Architecture’s established design narrative, while simultaneously diversifying the firm’s typological capabilities.
An outer layer of white vertical fins shade an inner skin of vibrant color, designed to reflect color and light between interior and exterior. Spaced irregularly, the tubular shades sometimes reveal more or less color to the observer. The resulting design creates a changing color wave from one floor to the next impacting the user and observer’s experience according to vantage point, seasonal weather fluctuations and time of day.

Gran Reserva de Madeira

Bogotá
Residential Development, Masterplan and Landscape Design
Gran Reserva de Madeira is situated in Bogotá’s growing Ciudad Salitre neighborhood.
The masterplan creates a hierarchy of public open space via a network of pedestrian boulevards drawing residents into the heart of the development. The aim is to create a strong sense of place and ownership of the spaces between each building; an approach that highlights Brandon Haw Architecture’s vision and work in landscape design.
The development comprises ten apartment buildings in four phases, with an assorted mix of amenities at the base of each building. The project is oriented to maximize direct sun into the crescent park, whilst connecting the project to the neighboring Ciudad Salitre district.
As with many of the firm’s projects, the structural system is expressed in its architecture. Each building communicates the seismic structure through textured concrete fin walls, colored to evoke the terracotta brick architecture of Bogotá. These structural elements plant each building to the ground upon “pilotis” that land into shallow reflecting pools of water; raising apartments above the first floor level, creating views through and under each residential block.
The cladding of the apartment units creates a controlled, yet varied composition of elements within the expressed structural grid.
This large scale project carefully breaks down the scale of the human experience, by creating a spatial hierarchy within the masterplan and within the detail of the architecture.

Universidad de los Andes Competition

Bogotá
Institutional
Brandon Haw Architecture was invited by the Universidad de los Andes to participate in a limited design competition for the expansion of its campus encompassing 260,500 ft2 (24,200 m2) of new construction and public spaces. The masterplan and architectural design integrates the campus with the surrounding urban environment, and seeks to firmly establish the university as an academic and cultural engine of the city.
The program for the new development includes: a research center for information technologies; a “Black Box” theater for an audience of 600; an exhibition hall; two administrative departments; and classrooms, laboratories, and study areas for students.
Founded in 1948, the Universidad de los Andes is one of Colombia’s most prestigious universities, with over 18,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The campus has grown organically in the foothills of the mountains at the eastern edge of Bogotá, with an average change in level reaching 250 feet (77 meters) from one end to another, making it a uniquely “horizontal/vertical” campus. The competition site is located in the northwestern corner of the campus, effectively making it the university’s “front door.”
Brandon Haw Architecture was selected by the university as the only international firm to participate in the competition as a “project leader”, leading a team of local technical consultants for the development of the proposal.

Faena Mar

Miami
Residential
Located in the Collins Avenue Historic District of Miami Beach and adjacent to Roy France’s classic Versailles Hotel (1941) and Faena House (2015), the property marks an exceptional addition to the acclaimed Faena District.
Designed to create open space around the original landmarked Versailles structure and maximize views of both the ocean and the western sunsets, the Versailles Contemporary is a shining example of contextualized design.
Expansive cantilevered balconies and rounded glazed corners create a harmonious relationship with both its historic and contemporary neighbors while providing shade and mitigating wind environments on the terraces. The undulating forms create a rippling façade that seems to float above the ocean’s horizon.
Gracious living environments with well-proportioned interiors are designed to harmonize and reinforce a connection to the sensuous forms of the building’s exterior.

Calle 26

Bogotá
Corporate and retail
The Calle 26 project was an advanced proposal for triple grade A commercial and retail space in Bogotá. The site marked a new multi-purpose community in the emerging Salitre District, located minutes from downtown on Calle 26 and the El Dorado International Airport. The project has since been adapted as a forthcoming residential development for which Brandon Haw Architecture remains as the principal architect.
Comprised of 1.35 million square feet of premium office space, the design creates a unified architectural and urban response, instantly recognizable from the highway. Highly efficient, environmentally responsive units cluster around a lively central public plaza.
The plaza is positioned around a reflecting pool and amphitheater that allows light into the car parking structure below. Large specimen trees provide shading and encourage social gathering in the colonnaded retail, food and beverage outlets at the plaza level.
Building users and local residents can enjoy the plaza with its performing arts events and shaded places to sit and relax throughout the day and evening as well as on weekends, creating an enlivened destination hub for the local community.
Chilled beams, natural ventilation and a highly efficient external seismic structural exoskeleton shade the glazed facades.

Vendôme Residences

Bogotá
Residential
Located in the heart of Bogota’s Chapinero district, the eight-story luxury residential development stands adjacent to three landmarked buildings. Crafted to accommodate the essence of Bogota’s lifestyle, the structure is refined in detail and responsive in design.
Sitting on a steep incline, the project has been developed to follow contours of the site and to be organized around a secure central courtyard that forms the heart of the residence.
Concrete seismic shear walls are bound together at each floor level by elegant bronze-finished metal straps, encircling the building.
Sliding sun and privacy screens modulate the terraced balconies with their expansive views of the mountains and city landscape.
